As you might’ve noticed, after our recent music video, we do like to have a bit of fun. The bad weather nearly 2 weeks ago put many visitors off coming to Koh Tao and we were in the unusual position of have no divers to teach or take diving. You can easily see from the photos and video that the bad weather long since passed and we are hardly the disaster zone that the media would have you believe.
We are not the type of people to sit around bored, so over a few beers one night the idea of Koh Taos Fin Olympics was born. We invited our mates along to take part and have a bit of a giggle on the beach infront of Master Divers and chaos ensued.
The events taking place were the Coconut Shot Put, The Kayak Race, The Obstacle Fin Race, Lilo Paddling and The Relay Race – which involved the use of mangos and eggs – more on that later. The teams were made up of four (mostly) and competing for the honour of winning were Team Goldilocks and the 2 Bears, The Awesome Foursome and The Rainbow Warriors.
People came out to support and have a laugh too and Ae came along with her cool kid !
So to the first event, which was the Fin Obstacle Course. This involved donning an old pair of fins and jumping over a kayak, going underneath a rope, spinning around three times at with your head on a stick and then back under the rope and over the kayak – well you didnt really expect it to be serious – did you? The dogs joined in too .
Above is Mark demonstrating a roll technique and below, well we are not sure if Paul jumped or tripped.
If you wanna see it all then, watch the video below…hilarious!
Next it was time to cool off in the water with the kayak race. Which involved a chicane provided by the pier. A stewards inquiry was called due to some un-sportsman-like ramming and certain tactics involved in the chicane. Below you can clearly see the ramming incident ! Hmm!
And of course there’s video – watch the white puppy …..
The Coconut Shot Put was close to having dire consequences not only for the dogs but for referee Charlotte too.
Wanna see the event from the business end – we think the contestants may actually have been aiming for Charlotte….
Next we were back into the water for the Lilo Paddling ….the rules said you should both have half of your body on the Lilo, meaning that you couldnt just swim and drag it ….Kev and Thea ready to go …
We think Phill and Harry actually just got in for a float around and cool down !
Another stewards inquiry was called as it seems one team dislodged another from their lilo at the turn …..
The final event was the relay race, which actually took longer to explain that it did to run. Teams had to run the length of the course with a mango under their chin, pass it to the team mate without hand (lots of cheating here!). They then had to run along the beach keeping an egg balanced in a spoon – the white puppy made this quite difficult ! Then there was a two person wheelbarrow race – I cant explain this – watch the video. Finally there was a short swim. Phew…
Who won ?
Who cares it was great fun !
