#Random Acts of Conservation for the 17th-23rd Sept’12

#RandomActsofConservation is a campaign designed to suggest one simple, quick and easy random act of conservation every day.

Mon 17th Sep’12
Sign this Greenpeace petition to lobby large internet and technology company’s to stop using coal to power their industry.
#RandomActsofConservation is very much internet driven and that in itself has and impact on our environment. We want to address that problem first because company’s like Microsoft and Apple and others draw the energy they use to store your music, photo’s, emails and videos predominantly from coal power. One of our greatest concerns ocean acidification which is driven by burning fossil fuels. So our first #RandomActofConservation is a Greenpeace petition ask some of these big companies to stop using coal power. This is also a great example of how your vote can make a difference as a similar campaign to this has already worked with Facebook.

 Tues 18th Sept’12
Pump your cars tires.
Under inflated tyres cause resistance making you car work harder than it should which in turn uses more petrol. So not only is this going to save you money, make your journey safer but it reduces CO2 emissions that lead to ocean acidification. If you want to find out more ways of reducing car CO2 emissions and leave a few more pounds in your pocket check out the UK Governments advice on greener travel.

 Wed 19th Sept’12
Sign this petition to aid with lobbying the worlds environmental leaders to SAVE SHARKS!
Sharks are apex predators, if we loose them it affects every organism down the food chain. To keep a healthy ocean it needs diversity and apex predators are part of that balance of nature. Everyone of us relies on the oxygen that our ocean provides and coral reefs need that diversity to survive.

Thurs 20th Sept’12
Have friends round for dinner!
This will save your friends from powering their homes for a night, saving them money, and reducing their CO2 emissions even if they don’t realize it. There are some other ways you can increase the positive impact this random act can have. When you ask your friends around get them to share transport. Ask them to pull all their plugs out before leaving home so nothing is on standby. Cook them a  non-meat/fish meal and hopefully your friends will repay the favour next week.

Friday 21st Sept’12
Pick up three pieces of plastic litter and TAKE THREE FOR THE SEA!
Aaaaargh Plastics!!!!!! It suffocates our oceans and the life that lives there and makes it’s way into our own food chain. So today we are going to Take 3 For The Sea. If we leave the rubbish lying on the floor it will most likely end up in the ocean. This is soooo quick and easy it should be a life choice.

Sat 22nd Sept’12
Watch and share this video.
Yesterday we took 3 for the sea, so today we can find out what would have happened to it if we had left it and why we all should reduce, reuse and recycle our plastic use.

Sun 23rd Sept’12
Share a shower with a friend to save water!
A cheeky one to finish the week.
