digital underwater photographer course
Over the years, teaching divers photography, I noticed that not all divers have the same needs.
While the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer speciality is a good overall course – it’s a specific outline which offers little in terms of flexibility. This is great for a purely diving course but when it comes to a creative challenge it can be a bit limiting. This is why I developed courses which allow me to teach each person individually so that I can concentrate on aspects that need the greatest development.
Courses come in 3 lengths allowing you to determine how much you want to learn. Choose 2 days and 3 dives, 3 days and 5 dives or 4 days and 7 dives.
Each course schedule, tasks, skills development and assignments are determined by the divers current skills, proficiency in the water, goals and equipment which makes it difficult to outline exactly what you will be doing. Below I have set out some key points.
Buoyancy is crucial to good images but it’s also crucial to making sure that both you and the reef are safe.
Focus on composition first, developing your creative eye. Know what looks good and why. Learn this and your self-critique will allow you to continuously improve your images.
Knowing your camera and understanding how to manipulate it to get the effect that you desire. Familiarity will allow you to react quick enough to capture that once-in-a-lifetime shot.
Depending on your level I start with simple camera functionality, allowing mastery before moving on to more advanced settings and strobe use.
In each course I guarantee lots of practical and continuous development.
You will have land assignments which will progress your familiarity with techniques before using them underwater.
I guarantee relaxed underwater sessions planned for you to get the most out of each dive in terms of time, conditions and subjects.
While I believe that you should get the best image you can, I also understand that underwater images can benefit from a little post-dive manipulation. I will teach you how to tweak and enhance your images but not to rely on it !

prerequisites
I prefer divers to enter this course with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver rating (or equivalent) . I will accept divers who are PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent) if they have logged a minimum of 20 dives. This is for your benefit to ensure you get the most out of the course. The more time I spend fine tuning your buoyancy the less you learn about photography.
If you feel you want to work on your buoyancy initially we can conduct the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dive or the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Speciality course.
schedule
Each course schedule, tasks, skills development and assignments are determined by the divers current skills, proficiency in the water, goals and equipment.
what's included?
The course includes: equipment hire and boat fees, high quality instruction from experienced and qualified instructor, tea, coffee, water and light refreshments on the boat and collection from the pier upon arrival if required.
You are encouraged to use your own camera system on this course as it makes sense to learn with what you will use. This will give you greater familiarity and confidence with your own kit. If you are just starting out on this adventure and do not have your own camera yet then we do have systems for hire. Cameras are 1,500B for the first 3 dives, then a further 1,500B per day thereafter and include a disc of all your images.
we can also offer you a selection of discounted accommodation which you can take a look at here.
