marine life of koh tao
We are gradually adding interesting notes about the various species that can be found on Koh Tao. Check back to this page as we add information.
sharks at chumphon pinnacleSave for being asleep for the last 10 years you can’t fail to know that sharks are endangered. Unless shark finning and other damaging activities stop abruptly I fear that we might be the last generation to see these magnificent creatures in the wild. The sharks at Chumphon Pinnacle, Koh Tao are no exception. Over the years we have seen numbers dwindle and their re-appearance each year is always cause to celebrate.Click here to read more. |

BarracudaWe have 3 main types of Barracudas you will bump into here on Koh Tao. From smallest to largest we have Yellowtails, Half Chevron and Great Barracudas. All three of which can be found at the same time on dive sites like Chumphon Pinnacle, Southwest and sometimes right at the front door on White Rock, although this is a little more rare. But guaranteed you will bump into at least one of the species on your visit.Click here to read more. |

banner fishBanner fish are seen at many sites on Koh Tao but usually in pairs rather than schooling. Banner fish often get confused with Moorish Idols which look quite similar. Moorish Idols aren't seen here though so it's a certainty that a fish looking like this here is a banner fish.Click here to read more. |
