The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty course will teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface. Small, large or just awkward, there is a way to bring them up. Find lost items and lift them to the surface. It’s fun to use the lift bag. Not only are these skills fun, but very practical and ultimately useful because eventually, you’ll lose something in the water. As a Search and Recovery Specialty Diver, you’ll know how to search for and recover it.

- Search and Recovery dive planning, organisation, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems.
- How to locate large and small objects using search patterns.
- How to use a lift bag and other recovery methods.
- Limited visibility search techniques.

prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI Search & Recovery Speciality course, you must be 12 years or older, have a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
or PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification with PADI Underwater Navigator certification (or have a qualifying certification from another organisation).
schedule
The typical PADI Search & Recovery Speciality course schedule is completed in 2 days. Each morning will start with a knowledge development and skills practice session which will prepare you for the afternoon's diving. The course includes 4 dives but if you have completed a Search & Recovery dive during your PADI Advanced Open Water course then this can be credited towards your Speciality - this means that you only have to complete 3 dives, and the course will be slightly cheaper!

The course includes all the elements required for completion: your own copy of the PADI Search & Recovery Specialty manual, internationally recognised PADI Search & Recovery Specialty certification card, full equipment hire and boat fees, high quality instruction from experienced and qualified instructors, tea, coffee, water and light refreshments on the boat and collection from the pier upon arrival if required.

Between these two courses you will master both navigation and be proficient in the use of lines and reels so you might be interested in furthering these skills on the PADI Wreck Diver or PADI Cavern Diver courses.
A PADI Master Scuba Diver is a highly accomplished diver - this is the highest rating a non professional can achieve and as such, you will be held in high esteem. To qualify you need to be a PADI Rescue Diver, with 50 logged dives and qualifications in five specialities.
