Phill

Phill worked for Master Divers from late 2010 and in early 2012 left the team to return home and pursue his dream of combining his love for scuba, surf and photography.  He’s a passionate diver and was an integral part of the team.  His positivity and passion will be sorely missed but we wish him the best of luck!  Here’s how his page read ……

Phill hails from Surrey, England, where he lived with his parents and younger brother, until going to university in Lincoln; here he studied Media Communications & Advertising. Upon completion of his studies, Phill started on the corporate ladder in Sales & Marketing. He then moved in consulting and selling financial software which led him into business consulting in change management and global growth strategies.

Having realised that this was utterly boring and no-one understood exactly what it was that he did, Phill decided to go on a surfing world tour mixed in with a bit of volunteering for good causes. Whilst on this tour, Phill came across a seahorse and reef conservation project in Cambodia, which included the creation of an artificial reef. He learnt to dive in the chilly freshwater quarries of the UK several years before, and so jumped at the opportunity to continue his diving education as well as working on an underwater conservation project. Whilst in Cambodia, Phill also helped to set up a local primary school where he taught English. Phill then moved to Chumphon, Thailand where he taught English for 6 months, which is how Phill discovered Koh Tao.  Being an experienced diver already, moving to Koh Tao to become a dive professional was the next natural step for him.

Phill completed his Divemaster training at Master Divers and has stayed here ever since, becoming our fulltime Divemaster.  Phil already had a keen eye for photography so learning the underwater aspect was a given.  He's one of our resident underwater photographers too. He is also involved with several conservation projects on Koh Tao, inspired by his time spent with the marine biologists in Cambodia. The only way to get Phill to stop coming to work and to leave Koh Tao would be to buy him a one-way ticket off the island, something that Phill is more than happy about!
